Ayurveda when translated means the Science of Life. And that it truly is.

It is one of the oldest healing systems in the world that has tracked back to over 5000 years old. The teachings of Ayurveda have withstood much adversity and are still remaining today because of its tried and true wisdom that can apply to any point in history and also modern day.

I first learned about Ayurveda during my first health coach training. After learning about every other dietary theory under the Sun, this is the one that made the most sense to me.

It takes into account the full holistic view of a human being to find true health including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. It gets down to the root of disease and dysfunction in the body instead of putting a bandaid on it to find true healing.

Every body is born with a unique constitution also known as a dosha. When we understand our body’s dosha we can learn how to care for it when it becomes out of balance due to sickness, stress or trauma to the body, mind or spirit.

Each dosha is associated with a season in nature and also the elements of nature, Fire, water, air, earth and ether. As humans we are technically animals in nature.

We are part of the whole system and interconnected web. The way that we care for our bodies changes during each of the seasons in nature due to changes in temperature, humidity and the energy of the season. This is why it is important to understand your specific dosha and what energy your body specifically carries. When your body becomes out of balance due to changes in season or sickness you will know how to care for it and bring it back into balance.

Curious about the doshas? Here’s a quick dosha quiz and explanation of each of them.
