Vata Body Rituals

Autumn in Ayurveda is the embodiment of the Vata Dosha.

This energy is dry, easily shifting, cool and ungrounded.

To keep our bodies healthy & vital during this season of transition, we need to incorporate more grounding practices for the body to balance the opposing energy in nature.

Try doing grounding exercise like functional strength training, core & pelvic floor work, yoga, hiking & slower movements.

Avoid fast cardio & exercise that ist cooler & dry to the body.

Increase lubricating, moist & spiced foods to help increase digestion & keep the body warm. This is the time of year where we actually want to gain a few pounds of healthy body fat in order to keep our nervous system healthy & our immune system strong.

Think grounding, oily, warming, spiced foods like:

Root Vegetables

Soups & Stews

Heavier proteins

Good quality oils like Olive Oil, Sesame Oil, Ghee & Grass-fed Butter

Whole grains like Farro, Quinoa, Rice, Barley

Adding warming spices like Cinnamon, Cloves, Nutmeg, Cumin, Cardamom, Sage

Teas like Chai, Licorice, Cinnamon, Marshmallow Root, Slippery Elm

Warming Body Rituals like Abyhanga (body oiling), warm baths & showers, Dry Brushing to increase circulation & slow breathing.
