Fermented Sourdough Recipe
First, you need to either make or buy sourdough starter (you can buy one HERE). I made mine which isn't hard, but takes a bit of dedication and time to create. I brought my starter on a weekend ski trip because I feed it at 10pm lol. Dedication is key!
To Make a Starter:
Find a large tupperware container and clean it as well as possible to make sure there is no extra bacteria that will interfere with the yeast.
Add 3/4 cup white flour and 1/2 cup of warm water into the container and mix until you see air bubbles. Cover the container with a cloth and let sit for 24 hours.
In exactly 24 hours, throw out half of the mixture and then incorporate another 3/4 cup flour and 1/2 cup warm water to the mixture to feed the yeast that it is creating. Stir until you see air bubbles and cover.
Do this process for at least 7 days and then your starter will be ready for making Sourdough bread!
Sourdough Bread Recipe:
3 1/3 cup flour
1-1 1/2 cup water
Scant Tbsp. salt
Mix sourdough starter, flour, and salt together. Use enough water to make bread dough. (A moist dough is preferable to a dry dough.)
Knead dough for about 10 minutes. I like to listen to classical music while I do it to set the mood :)
Shape the dough into a loaf. Place on a wood cutting board. Rub a little oil on the top surface of the dough and cover lightly with a towel. Allow the dough to rise for 24 hours.
Slice an X shape in the top of the loaf with a very sharp knife.
Bake at 400°F until the internal temperature reaches 210°F. (Use a meat thermometer inserted into the bottom or side of the loaf.) Bake 30-60 minutes (depending on loaf size). Cool before slicing.
