Entering Flow State- the answer to weight loss
When was the last time you felt like time didn’t exist? (and no, I'm not talking about that night when you took ecstasy). I'm talking about when you were so in tune with that moment that nothing else mattered. Where your cell phone was no where to be found and it didn't matter what you had to do later that day. That is called flow state.
“You are in an ecstatic state to such a point that you feel as though you almost don’t exist. I have experienced this time and again. My hand seems devoid of myself, and I have nothing to do with what is happening. I just sit there watching it in a state of awe and wonderment. And [the music] just flows out of itself.”
What happens in flow state? Your soul, subconsciousness and your gut that knows all of the answers to what you should do, takes control of your actions and you do your best work. You are in your element of pure bliss and the seemingly impossible can be done there. It is the place where the world's greatest thinkers, athletes and artists live.
I recently awakened this flow state. Skiing. I learned how to ski about a year ago and caught on to it fairly quickly. I graduated from greens to blues and felt comfortable. Being in a relationship with an ex-ski racer forced me to excel to the next level of terrain which of course is blacks. All I could picture was the scene from Bridget Jones Diary where she falls off the ski lift as the hot, perfect girl to her left floats down the mountain with her hair in the breeze.
There is no doubt that skiing or any extreme sport is scary. You are going down a mountain on 2 flat surfaces as fast as you can. Your brain is telling you to stop, of course, to save you from dying. So how do you survive? Flow state.
After much research, I realized that the only way for me to conquer my fears and get to the next level (especially after learning to ski as an adult) was to find my flow state.
You sit on the lift. Ride it up. Get off as you always do. You ski to the hardest part of the run you usually skate down sideways. And without any expectation, listen to your gut. Turn. Turn. Turn. Before your brain tells you to be afraid of going too fast, turn again. And again. Your gut, the REAL you that is smarter than your brain says turn.
I realized the only way for me to conquer my health is flow state. Writing my book. Skiing. Playing music. Singing. Loving myself. Breaking an unhealthy relationship with food. Feeling happy. Beating depression. Is flow state. The place where time doesn't exist. Where it doesn't matter how many calories you've eaten that day. Where you don't look at your belly to see if it's flat. Where you forget that you have $25.00 in your bank account and $4000.00 of credit card debt. Where you love yourself more than any one could EVER love you. And you are proud of the person you have become.
Flow state is where food no longer becomes a comfort because you are already full. Of joy. And love. And respect.
Flow state is where you feed your body only when it is hungry and it craves fuel that is real.
Flow state is where you do not EVER beat yourself up over enjoying a piece of chocolate.
Flow state is where you are healthy. And perfect. Like you already are right now.
